At this moment in time when the popularity of Celtic music is stronger then ever there is still an area in the Celtic market place which as yet remains unexplored. THE RIVER introduces us to something refreshing and different. Carole Rowley and Caroline Dale have successfully interwoven a love of Celtic and Classical music with their pop song writing talents. Using rich layers of cellos and vocals combined with the subtle use of traditional instruments they carry the timelessness of Celtic music into new realms. THE RIVER also boasts two sensitive and beautifully orchestrated instrumental pieces. This CD should appreal to a wide range of listeners of all ages. Lay back and dream….. Float with them on their river of sound. Open your ears to an enchanting musical landscape.
For THE RIVER Carole collaborated with her friend Caroline Dale, a gifted cellist and arranger. They called on players such as guitarist Dominic Miller, well known for his work with Sting, and multi- instrumentalist James McNally on pipes and percussion, among others. Caroline has recorded or performed with Peter Gabriel, Sinead O’Connor, Simply Red, The Cure, Page and Plant, George Michael, Bush, Loreena McKennit, as well as with Classical performers such as Nigel Kennedy. She has been a solo artist on Virgin Classics, and is currently on EMI with her group Ghost Land. Caroline is a featured performer in the film music of composer Michael Kaman and can also be heard playing the role of Jacqueline Dupres in the movie Jackie and Hillary.
CAROLE'S COMMENTS
I’d been writing in this "Contemporary Celtic" vein for a while but didn’t really know what to do with the songs. It was incredible to have the opportunity to work with Caroline. I have nothing but respect for her! Her playing really moves me deeply. There’s such emotion and passion in her approach to the music. Basically, I love working with her because she’s just a tremendous musician… not to mention the fact that she has a ridiculous sense of humor. We had some hysterically funny moments putting this project together and wrote some alternative lyrics which shall remain forever unheard by the general public! Although the songs were actually written in London or in the studio in Wales, the musicians are Irish, Colombian, Argentinean, Egyptian and English!! Everyone who helped make this happen added their own flavor to the mix. It was kind of a weird experiment that worked. We didn’t know where it was taking us…but we enjoyed the trip immensely.
